Overview
An integrated energy district concept for the municipality of Altrip in Rhineland-Palatinate. The project developed comprehensive analyses and strategies to improve the municipality's overall energy efficiency, urban development and climatic conditions โ combining detailed analysis of settlement, social and economic structure with energy supply and microclimate assessment.
A particular focus was placed on building a catalogue of measures to boost energy efficiency, promote renewable energy, improve the microclimate and assess the feasibility of a district heating network, alongside a controlling and monitoring concept for long-term sustainability.
I carried out the building-level energy analysis โ including solar potential, renovation status and building age classes โ and produced the cartography and WebGIS for the project, working alongside the FREQUENTUM and Plan4Better teams.

01Settlement & Structure Analysis
Analysed the settlement, social and economic structure of Altrip as the foundation for the district concept, drawing on land use (ATKIS) and cadastral data.
02Building Stock & Energy Demand
Assessed renovation status and building age classes across the municipality, and calculated building-level energy demand as a basis for targeted measures.
03Renewable Energy Potential
Mapped building-level solar potential and near-surface geothermal potential across Altrip, and assessed the feasibility of a district heating network.
04Measures, Monitoring & WebGIS
Developed a catalogue of measures to raise energy efficiency and improve the microclimate, a controlling and monitoring concept for long-term tracking, and a WebGIS to make the results accessible to the municipality.
Planning Cases
- Analysis of settlement, social and economic structures
- Assessment of renovation status and building age classes
- Calculation of building-level energy demand
- Provision of a WebGIS for the municipality
Tools & Technologies
- GIS-based energy and building-stock analysis โ solar potential, geothermal potential, energy demand
- Land use (ATKIS) and cadastral building data
- WebGIS for delivering results to the municipality
- Cartography for all maps produced for the concept
Outcome
Delivered an integrated energy district concept that gives the municipality of Altrip a data-driven foundation for improving energy efficiency, promoting renewable energy and adapting the microclimate โ with a concrete catalogue of measures, a feasibility assessment for district heating, and a monitoring concept to track progress over time.
